Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, invites the community to participate in programs and events. All programs are free. Preregistration is required for all programs at http://www.mslibrary.org or by calling 717-653-1510, unless noted otherwise.
Members of the public should wear a mask when visiting the library and attending indoor programs. Returned items should continue to be placed in the outside book drop. Returned items will be quarantined for seven days, during which time fines will not accrue.
The library is currently open on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on Fridays and Sundays. Gently used books and media materials can be donated at the self-service shed behind the library on Wednesdays and Thursdays during open hours and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The library will offer several programs for children and families. These programs will be in-person only. Space is limited.
Story Time with Miss Jan, which includes activities based on a weekly theme, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cap the Gap, designed for children ages 5 to 7, will explore a variety of topics of interest to young readers on Monday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m.
STEM in a Sack will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16. Children age 7 and older will receive a bag with the materials for that day's project. Participants will learn about the science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) element involved and then use the materials in the bags to do a project.
Fun Family Bingo, for family members age 7 and older, will be held on March 16 at 7 p.m. Winners will receive books for prizes.
History Mystery will offer the opportunity to learn about a mystery related to a real event in history. The event will be offered on Tuesday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Participants must be at least age 7.
A variety of programs and clubs will also be offered for adults.
The Northwest Book Club will meet on Wednesday, March 10, at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is "American Dirt" by Jeanine Cummins. The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
A Gathering of Artists Club will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17. Artists may bring their current project to the library to receive feedback and work in the company of others.
The Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club will gather from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. Any artist who likes to create in the company of others is encouraged to attend.
Closely Knit will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22. Knitters and crocheters may socialize while working on individual projects.
Make-It Monday - "What's Your Sign?" will take place on March 22 at 6 p.m. Teens and adults can choose a saying and colors to create a personalized sign out of a recycled wood piece from library shelving, or they may bring their own wood piece if they prefer.
