Students at Sacred Heart School recently took part in a team-building activity that grew from a class assignment.
Miss Jackie, middle school language arts teacher at Sacred Heart School, instructed the seventh-graders to write "how to" essays. The essays would then be presented to the class to determine the accuracy of their written description.
Patrick Fertal decided to describe how to make an origami snapper puppet. As he was reading, classmates followed along, creating their own snapper puppets.
The entire class decided to make a larger version measuring 3 feet by 2 feet, which inspired them to expand the project even further. Two seventh-graders, Will O'Malley and Stephen Scott, determined the proportions to make an 8-by-11-foot creation. At home, Stephen taped eight strands of 11 pieces of paper together. The next day during recess, the entire class taped all the strands together and made one enormous sheet of paper into a snapper puppet named Calvin. Calvin now sits in the corner of the classroom to remind everyone what they could achieve when working together.
