GEARS Plans Activities

GEARS will offer several classes and programs to its members and the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a cost per person for each class or program, with a discount for members of GEARS. GEARS will offer an Iddy Biddy Soccer Program for children ages 3 to 5. This instructional program will be held on Saturdays, April 17 to May 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. (Class A) and 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. (Class B) at field 2 at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 800 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Coaches will teach basic soccer skills such as dribbling, passing and trapping. The fee includes a T-shirt. Shin guards are recommended, and cleats are optional.

GEARS will sponsor the Elizabethtown Area Youth Soccer Program. This program is designed to be instructional as well as provide opportunities to participate in low-competitive soccer games. Both boys and girls in grades one to three are invited to register. The program will operate on Saturdays, April 17 to May 22, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at field 3 at EAHS. The fee includes a T-shirt.

Zumba Gold will be held on Wednesdays, April 7 to May 26, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the gym at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Licensed Zumba Gold instructor Judy McMillen will lead this aerobics-type class, which uses primarily Latin American and international style music. This class is geared to deconditioned people, beginner exercisers and active older adults.

Food Smarts, Healthy Choices, for people age 18 and up, will take place on Wednesday, April 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building, 190 Rock Point Road, Marietta. Registered dietitian nutritionist Mallory Ziegler will discuss good nutrition and simple strategies for eating healthy. There is a set fee.
