Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, unless noted otherwise, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. Deep Forest Bathing will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 3. Designed for individuals age 10 and older, the event will be held at the Theodore A. Parker III Natural Area, 244 Wesley Road, Quarryville. A naturalist will guide participants through the practices of deep listening meditation and forest bathing.
Homeschool Wednesday: Early Spring Wildflowers will be offered to students ages 8 to 12 on Wednesday, April 7. Two sessions are available from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Attendees will walk to explore the woods and floodplains in the vicinity of the Environmental Center and the covered bridge in search of early wildflowers. Along the way, students will discover the strategies employed by these spring ephemerals to ensure their return the following year. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings and must be registered.
Thursday in the Park: Welcome Wildflowers, for children ages 6 to 9, has been set for Thursday, April 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. or from 1 to 2 p.m. The group will look for early-blooming flowers in the woods and learn about their natural history and lore along the way. Attendees should dress for the weather and plan for outdoor activity. Children under age 6 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
