Four seniors received recognition from Lampeter-Strasburg High School faculty for their achievements in February. The Pioneer Superlatives were Jenna Lapp and Colin McDonald, while the Students of the Month were Courtney Cannon and Austin Reiff.
English teacher Carol Allen-Gordon nominated Jenna for her work ethic, maturity, and active participation in class discussions. Jenna is a senior and the daughter of Amos and Freda Lapp of Lancaster. She is a senior class treasurer, the L-S National Honor Society president and Mini-THON planning committee president, and a member of the Pioneer Interact Club, honor roll, and the lacrosse team. When not in school, Jenna is active in her church youth group. She plans to attend college and pursue a career in the medical field.
The social studies department nominated Colin because he possesses a wealth of knowledge and starts conversations to pique other students' interests. Colin is a senior and the son of Ray and Terri McDonald of Lancaster. He is the senior class president and a member of the L-S Model UN and the High School Heroes mentoring program. He has been named a Lancaster South Rotary Student of the Month and received the district's 11th-grade Burrowes Scholar award for social studies excellence. He plans to attend Temple University to study marketing and pursue a career in politics.
The physical education department nominated Courtney because she is an active participant in class and is always looking for ways to improve. Using techniques taught in the archery unit, she recently hit two bull's eyes out of three chances. Courtney is a senior and the daughter of Edward and Melissa Cannon of Lancaster. She is an honor roll student. Outside of school, Courtney is involved in a cheerleading team at Spooky Nook Sports. She would like to pursue a career as a nurse after graduation.
The social studies department nominated Austin because he is a conscientious student who takes his work seriously and contributes thoughtfully in class discussions. Austin is a senior and the son of Lloyd and Susan Reiff of Lancaster. He is a member of the varsity wrestling team, the High School Heroes mentoring program, and Varsity Club. Austin is an honor roll student and an L-L League Academic All-Star. He plans to attend Delaware Valley University to study conservation and wildlife management and to participate in wrestling.
