Tree Climbing School Posted

Penn State Extension will offer its Tree Climbing School to teach the fundamentals of safe tree climbing and maintenance. The program will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, through Friday, May 7, at Gring's Mill Recreation Area, 2083 Tulpehocken Road, Reading.

To achieve success in this climbing course, all participants should be in good health and have a desire to work in arboriculture. On the first day, all participants will be asked to sign a waiver.

The school will include classroom and fieldwork. Topics will include safety and safe climbing practices, equipment and use of hand tools, tree terminology, tree disease and insect diagnosis, culture and pruning, tree removal, and knots.

Students completing this school will not be accomplished climbers. However, students will have the basic understanding, knowledge, and skills required in the field of tree maintenance and tree climbing. A great deal of time will be spent in trees climbing.
