Comets Putting Up Competitive Scores

The Comets came into Saturday's (April 10) non-league baseball game with a 0-5 record. They were looking for their first victory, hosting Central York but instead suffered another 2-0 loss.

"We could potentially be 3-3," said head coach Streeter Stuart. "We just need to find a way to hit better. As a coach, I feel responsible for not finding way to get our kids to hit better."

In their six losses, three have been by two runs. Manor lost to Warwick 2-0 and to McCaskey 4-2. They have scored five runs to date.

The Comets out hit CY 5-3 but missed the clutch hit. They left the bases loaded in the sixth and had runners on second and third in the seventh.

"Our pitching had done well enough to win games," said Stuart. "Hunter Sipel was the hard luck loser in those 2-0 losses. In each of these games we had opportunities to score runs but could not put the ball in play with runners on base.

"We believe in these kids and will keep working on our batting," he added.

Sipel fanned six and walked four. He, along with Brady Frey, Raudy Pineda, Zach Clare and Jamison Ford provided the offense.

In the April 9 loss to McCaskey, they plated both runs in the third inning. Jamison Ford reached on an error and, with two outs, scored on Sipel's triple. Braegelman's base hit made it 2-zip.

Sipel and Max Jesberger each finished with two hits and Braegelman added one.

Despite a 1-0 lead after three innings, the Comets gave up six runs in the fourth and dropped a 7-1 outing at Cedar Crest Tuesday. Sipel led Manor's six hit effort with two while Ethan Adelman pushed the lone run in.

The Comets exploded on Wednesday, collecting 11 hits in a 15-1 five inning win over CV. They batted around in the third inning, overtaking a 1-0 deficit with 11 runs.

Glenn (2-2, 1RBI) Sipel (2-2, 2RBIs), Swarr (2-4, 4RBIs), Adelman (2-3, 1RBI) all finished with two hits while Lawrence, Braegelmann and Jesberger recorded 2RBIs.

Noah Beach struck out seven in the win.

SOFTBALL

The Comets, playing their fifth game in six days, remained undefeated at 7-0 with a 7-4 thriller over Central Dauphin Saturday, April 10.

Down 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded, Kaelin Gable crushed a walk off grand slam to lift the hosts over the Rams.

Audrey Patterson's (2-3) double pushed in the first run of the seventh inning. Tori Hook's base knock made it 4-3 with one out. Emily Riggs (3-3) followed with a double and CD intentionally walked Maddie Trout to set the stage for Gable.

Bella Peters struck out 10 and walked two in the circle.

The Comets were coming off a 15-0 three-inning shutout over winless McCaskey one day earlier. Riggs went 3-3 with five RBIs. Peters, who fanned four and did not give up hit or a walk, was 2-2 with three RBIs.

Manor banged out 12 hits in an 11-0 win over Cedar Crest Tuesday. Riggs was 2-4 with a pair of homers, Patterson and Booth added two doubles each and Goss (2-3) added a double as well.

With some JV players seeing action Wednesday, the Comets defeated CV 8-2. Riggs was the big hitter going 2-3 with 3RBIs. Gable, Hook and Patterson each finished with two hits.
