Do You Know Your Neighbor?

Driving through southern Lancaster County, people are met with picturesque views of lush and verdant farmland. Surrounded by this seeming abundance, it might be difficult for people to imagine that poverty and homelessness exist in the Southern End. But for some residents, these situations are an everyday reality. Fortunately, Solanco Neighborhood Ministries (SNM) can help.

Located in Quarryville at 355 Buck Road, SNM has been around for nine years. The ministry's mission is to provide a support network, promote personal and spiritual growth, increase self-sufficiency, and break the cycle of poverty within the Solanco community. SNM connects families and individuals with resources that are intended to ensure their sustainability and suspend the crisis they're experiencing.

On Wednesday, July 28, SNM will host its first social event. The rain-or-shine Do You Know Your Neighbor? event will take place at Britain Hill Venue and Vineyard, 790 Little Britain Road North, Quarryville, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the ministry through the eyes of families and individuals who sought assistance from SNM. There will be a photo gallery where these families and individuals will share the impact that SNM had on their lives. There will also be food trucks, wine, live music, and a silent auction where participants will be able to bid on hot air balloon rides, baskets from Central Market in Lancaster, gift cards from restaurants, and more.

"I think it will be really eye opening for people to look at the photo gallery and read the stories," said executive director Teresa Dolan. "People will see how much need is down here and see that the families we help are no different than any other family."

Entry to the event is free, but freewill offerings will be accepted. Although it is not required, registration is encouraged. Registration can be completed at https://bit.ly/neighborhoodministries. For more information, call 717-786-4308 or email office@SNMinistries.org.
