Hershey Area Playhouse will hold auditions for its production of the musical "Disney's The Lion King Jr." for students in grades four to 12. There will be two opportunities to audition: Monday, Sept. 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 8, as needed.
Those auditioning must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who remains on site during the audition process. Masks are required, but participants may be asked to remove their masks once in the audition room. Participants may also wear a face shield.
Those auditioning should come prepared with a 36-bar song selection. There will be an accompanist on site. Participants should bring sheet music or a prerecorded karaoke track on a device that can play it in the room. They should not sing a cappella.
Short scenes from the show will be provided, and those auditioning may be asked to do a cold reading. These scene selections have been posted at http://www.hersheyareaplayhouse.com/upcoming. Auditions will also include learning and performing choreography, so participants should wear or bring appropriate shoes.
The audition form is available to download at the aforementioned website. Youths should bring a photograph of themselves that can be attached to the audition form.
"Disney's The Lion King Jr." is an adapted version of the film and stage production "The Lion King." The show is directed by theater veteran Jennifer Feldser, with choreography by Laurie Miller Petersen and vocal direction by Jacquie Engel.
Once roles are cast, families will be asked to contribute a set monetary amount. Scholarships are available for families with financial need and can be coordinated with Feldser.
"Disney's The Lion King Jr." is made possible by a grant from The Hershey Company. A preview performance will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, with performances on Friday to Sunday, Oct. 22 to 24.
