Circle Legacy Center Sets Programs

The Circle Legacy Center has scheduled several events to engage participants in exploring the cultural traditions of Native Americans. All activities will take place at the Blue Rock Heritage Center, 2251 River Road, Washington Boro.

On Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon, participants will have the opportunity to learn the history of the types of medicine bags used by Native Americans and to design and make a bag. The fee for this activity will include supplies. Registration is required.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees will be taught how Native American corn farmers used husks to make dolls, cordage, mats, masks, moccasins, and containers. Registrants will be invited to join MaryAnn Robins in making a twined basket out of twined corn husks. Participants will need to bring scissors, needle nose pliers, and a lunch. Snacks will be provided. There is a fee, and registration is required.

"Who, What, Where Did Thanksgiving Come From?" will be the theme of the session to be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Barry Lee will discuss what the Pilgrims wrote about their first meal with the Wampanoag. Then, guests will learn about this meal from a Native American's perspective.
