Harvest Presbyterian Church PCA will participate in the West Lampeter Fair for the first time on Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 22 to 24. At the organization's booth, church members will provide free popcorn and literature to help people grow in their faith. There will also be a children's game in which parents can be called on to assist, as well as a giveaway drawing for a fall home decoration.
This fall, Harvest will host Christianity Explored in various locations; dates are to be announced. This free program is open to the public and aims to provide a warm, friendly environment where people can learn about who Jesus is and why He came to Earth.
The church will also host a Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. This free community picnic will include with games, hayrides, adult tricycle races and food.
Harvest is located at 517 Beaver Valley Pike and has just celebrated 10 years in its present building. The congregation worships on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. For the 10 years previous to its moving to its current facility, the church met in the basement of Willow Street Restaurant and Lancaster Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Harvest called its new pastor, Jim Furey, about a year ago. Jim and his wife, Carol, came to faith in Christ early in their marriage. They attended Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which was led by pastor D. James Kennedy. Jim served as an elder in the church and was active in Evangelism Explosion, a ministry teaching others how to lovingly share their faith in Christ. Jim worked in banking for about 15 years before he felt God's call to pastoral ministry. He attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Miss., and then planted and pastored churches in Indianapolis and Buffalo, N.Y.
