Michael Badriaki joined Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS) this summer as the new high school and middle school principal. The 2021-22 school year started on Aug. 24 with the Lancaster campus educating 350 middle and high school students of LMS' almost 700 prekindergarten through 12th-grade students, hailing from across Lancaster County and the U.S. and around the world.
Badriaki, born in Kenya and raised in Uganda, has worked globally for over 20 years in education, holistic missions, global health, consulting, leadership development, business, international relief, and development.
Badriaki's commitment to school started early in his life, as his parents and siblings exemplified the impact of education. His parents provided a safe childhood and the gift of access to education, yet there were times when they financially struggled to send him to school every year. To keep up with his classmates, he would spend days outside the classroom window listening to lessons and evenings completing homework by candlelight until his family could afford for him to return.
Badriaki earned a Doctor of Ministry in leadership and global perspectives from George Fox University, a Master of Arts in pastoral and intercultural studies from Multnomah University and Biblical Seminary and a Bachelor of Science from Concordia University. He is pursuing a doctorate in intercultural education from Biola University. Michael is the author of the book "When Helping Works: Alleviating Fear and Pain in Global Missions."
Badriaki described himself as a student-centric educator who seeks to facilitate learning by elevating the importance of prayer, the Gospel, Scripture, service learning, doing justly in accordance to Micah 6:8, innovative entrepreneurship, assessments, and service learning both locally and globally.
