"White Rabbit, Red Rabbit" Slated

Oct 02, 2021 -

Open Stage, 25 N. Court St., Harrisburg, will present "White Rabbit, Red Rabbit" through Sunday, Oct. 24. "White Rabbit, Red Rabbit," by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour, features a single actor, no set, no costumes, no director and no rehearsal. The actor receives a sealed envelope and a set of instructions before embarking on a 70-minute journey with nothing but the author's voice as his or her guide.

Each performance has a different actor, and Soleimanpour designed the show so that anyone could read the part, regardless of gender, race, or age. An array of performers from the central Pennsylvania arts scene will be involved in the local production. Most of them have previously been involved in productions at Open Stage. The performers will include Caitlin Graci, Jennie Adams, Christopher Ellis, Clark Nicholson and Georgianna Hicks.

The names of the actors involved in each iteration of the show are added to a database, so "White Rabbit, Red Rabbit" can never have the same reader twice. Other than a small page of instructions that the actor receives 48 hours before his or her scheduled performance, the performer must not know anything about the play.

Open Stage is offering free seats to anyone who has bought a ticket to a previous show, and attendees are able to return as many times as they like to experience the story from different points of view.
