Over the summer, hundreds of people located in Ben Franklin Technology Partners' 32-county footprint in Pennsylvania visited the organization's website to check out the rules and the application process for its $50,000 innovation contest.
The eight finalists competed virtually via Zoom on Oct. 14. They made their presentations to a panel of independent judges from CARGAS, Perceptive Automata, EG Associates Group, Sheetz and Erie Insurance.
The first-place winner was Faubion, located in Lancaster County, which took home a cash prize of $30,000. The company, represented by Andrew Wolgemuth and Brian Elliott, created a 3D printing technology and newly developed wax resins that produce replicas of unique bridal ring designs.
Other local finalists included American Daedalus, located in Dauphin County, which developed a system that remotely detects and helps avoid atmospheric turbulence. Derek Smith and Jamie Hansen represented the company.
BoB Profit Partners, located in York County, developed loss prevention technology that uses a sensor to detect when items are left behind in the shopping cart. The company was represented by Craig Moyer and Raj Trivedi.
