The 2021-22 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now open. LIHEAP provides help with home heating bills and is available to renters and homeowners. It is not necessary to be on public assistance to be eligible, and LIHEAP grants do not need to be repaid. Crisis grants may be available for emergency situations where residents are in jeopardy of losing their heat.
To apply online, visit http://www.compass.state.pa.us. To request a paper application, call the statewide LIHEAP hotline at 866-857-7095; hearing-impaired individuals may call PA Relay at 711. Paper applications are also available at the County Assistance Office, 832 Manor St., Lancaster, which may be contacted at 717-299-7411.
Income limits are $19,320 for one person; $26,130 for two people; and $32,940 for three people. For each additional person in the household, add $6,810 to the maximum income allowed.
After applications are processed, applicants will receive a written notice that will tell them if they qualify. If an applicant is eligible, the letter will share the amount of the grant.
