North Museum To Explore Science, Magic

North Museum of Nature and Science, 400 College Ave., Lancaster, has announced activities during the Wizardly Weeks of Winter in December and Cool Science Week on Sunday, Dec. 26, through Friday, Dec. 31.

A new, exclusive exhibit is on display in the lobby. Developed by the museum's Professor Proton, the exhibit examines the science of Santa in order to prove the jolly old elf's existence. Attendees can follow a series of experiments from sled speed evaluation to red-nose reindeer light analysis.

Additionally, visitors to the museum may complete experiments to discover the science behind illusions and magic tricks. They may also create their own wizard's wand and a disappearing map with invisible ink.

The first two Harry Potter films will be shown on weekends, with one film showing per day at noon, until Cool Science Week, when showings will be every day. Separate ticket fees have been set for adults and for kids.

The "Season of Lights" show, which focuses on holiday traditions, will be shown in the planetarium at 11 a.m. on weekends with a double showing on Friday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Showings will also take place daily during Cool Science Week. Separate ticket fees have been set for adults and for kids.

At home, children may watch a virtual STEM Storytime with Todd Trout, Lancaster Country Day School's chemistry wizard and assistant head of school. His reading of "If I Were A Wizard" by Paul C. Hamilton will be available on http://www.northmuseum.org on Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Hot cocoa will be available for takeout on the weekends and Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 and 24. Visitors will be able to view the NORAD tracking of Santa in the planetarium on Dec. 24.

The North Museum will close early on Dec. 24 at 2 p.m. and will be closed on Christmas, Saturday, Dec. 25, and New Year's Day, Saturday, Jan. 1.
