Celebration Planned For Gobrecht

A drop-in retirement celebration for Denise "Gobie" Gobrecht will be held on Friday, Jan. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penn Manor High School, 100 E. Cottage Ave., Millersville.

Gobrecht was born and raised in Lancaster city. She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, where she was a varsity athlete, playing field hockey, basketball and track and field. Denise was Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 1974 and was inducted into the McCaskey Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. She graduated from Lock Haven State College, where she played field hockey and basketball.

Gobrecht was an assistant field hockey coach at Penn Manor High School for 16 years, from 2005 to 2021. She is retired from the School District of Lancaster, where she served as a physical education teacher for 34 years at Edward Hand Middle School and J.P. McCaskey High School. She is also the manager of field hockey for U10, U12 and U14 at Spooky Nook Sports, and she has spent 30 years as director of the Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Camp in Lewes, Del. She has been a member of the board of directors for the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame for three years.

She is a board member of the McCaskey Alumni Association.
