Students in Lower Dauphin School District were recognized in November and December by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care and Hummelstown Police for doing the right thing.
In November, a fifth-grader at Conewago Elementary School and a seventh-grader at Lower Dauphin Middle School were honored. The fifth-grader, Payton Blankenship, was honored for running to get help for a first-grader whom he found crying near the playground doors. At the middle school, teacher Kirstan Cherry nominated Silas Wright for recognizing that a student who had missed school and needed help with the many assignments he had to complete. Cherry said that without being asked, Silas helped the other student complete his work during 11th period and after school.
In December, a pair of fifth-graders at South Hanover Elementary School were recognized. Sloan Osevala and Sophia Warble were nominated by their school counselor, Liza Kalloz. Kalloz said that after participating in a Helping Hands activity where students made disaster relief bags for the Red Cross, Sloan and Sophia were inspired to make and sell bracelets to raise money for the Red Cross.
For their efforts, each of the four students was rewarded with a gift card to Target; a Do the Right Thing T-shirt, pencil and certificate; and a Subway coupon. The program sponsors were Hixon & Simko in November and the Hummelstown Lions Club in December.
The Do the Right Thing program recognizes students in the Lower Dauphin community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or outstanding efforts. For more information, contact Angela Durantine at adurantine@ldsd.org.
