Effective Jan. 1, the center will utilize donations to cover the costs of charged classes. Zumba, tap, Pilates, yoga, and drum will be free for as long as there are underwriters.
Scrabble is beginning in January and wll be played on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m.
Beginners Pickleball will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Fridays starting Tuesday, Jan. 11. Registration is required.
Drum Fitness will be held at 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays starting Jan. 11. Interested individuals should contact the office by Thursday, Jan. 6, to reserve a spot in the free class.
Cordier Auctions will offer a one-time appraisal clinic at the center on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. The event will be led by founder David Cordier, who has been featured on "Antiques Roadshow" and who wrote "Eye on Antiques." Individuals are asked to register in the office by Monday, Jan. 17. Readers with questions may call Erin at 717-315-8821.
A soup and sandwich sale will take place on Friday, Jan. 21, and Monday, Jan. 24, with pickup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Options include tomato tortellini soup and ham and cheese sandwiches. There is a per-meal fee, and meals must be reserved by Jan. 19. All proceeds will benefit the center's programming.
A Wellness Demo Day will be offered on Jan. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For a set donation, individuals will gain access to some of the center's most popular classes. The schedule will include the following: Zumba with Judy, 8:30 a.m.; chair yoga with Karen, 9 a.m.; balance and mobility with Kim, 9:30 a.m.; yoga with Karen, 10 a.m.; tai chi with Deb, 10:30 a.m.; Drum Fitness with Pamra, 11 a.m.; weights with Sara, 11:30 a.m.; Pilates with Sally, noon; and breathing meditation with Tansy, 12:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a yoga mat or a towel, and they may register in advance or drop in. All proceeds will benefit center programs.
The book club will meet on Monday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m. Attendees will discuss "The Lincoln Highway" by Amor Towles.
Appointments may now be made for AARP free tax assistance, which will be offered via a low-contact method. Detailed information will be mailed after individuals schedule an appointment. To make an appointment, people must either be fully vaccinated or produce a negative PCR COVID test within 48 hours of the appointment, and they must wear a mask while in the building. They must also have had their taxes prepared by this program in the past five years. Appointments will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting in February.
The center will offer several day trips, as well. Trips are also open to center nonmembers who are fully vaccinated. The schedule is as follows: "Tina - The Tina Turner Musical" on Broadway, Wednesday, April 20, with reservations necessary by Friday, March 18; Baltimore Dine-Around, Thursday, June 9, with reservations necessary by Sunday, May 1; and Valor and Honor Trip to West Point/Hudson River, Tuesday, Aug. 30, with reservations necessary by Sunday, July 17.
