Park To Offer Activities

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event unless otherwise stated. Sustainability Merit Badge will be offered to Scouts age 10 and up from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 15, March 12, and April 23. Prior to the first session, Scouts must complete Parts 1 and 2, including the section that requires tracking a monthlong household water-reduction plan. In each meeting, Scouts must provide documentation and report on their assigned sections prior to receiving assignments for subsequent meetings.

A Full Moon Walk: Wolf Moon for people of all ages will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, in Muhlenberg Meadow. Participants should meet in the parking lot at Ballfield 1 at 539 Golf Road, Lancaster. A naturalist will lead a walk in the meadow, along the creek and through the woods under the full moon.

Munchkin Science: Mysterious Owls will be offered to children ages 3 to 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Participants will learn about these nocturnal predators.

TNT Science Series: Chemical and Physical Changes, a program for youths ages 11 to 17, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Pavilion 22. Participants will learn about chemical and physical changes through experimentation by making a cabbage indicator, baking soda rockets, dry ice soup, starch oobleck, and bubble juice. Parents must sign a release waiver before dropping off their children.

Jump Into STEM: Snow Tracks, for children ages 3 to 5, will take place on Thursday, Jan. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. Preschool scientists will learn how to identify animal tracks in the snow and will also make their own animal tracks guide to take home with them. All supplies will be provided.
