Redcay, Harrill Honored

Luke Redcay and Sophia Harrill have been selected as January's Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School (MCHS). The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, and both Students of the Month are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Manheim. Students are chosen by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character and involvement within the school and community.

Luke, 18, is the son of Eric and Denise Redcay of Mount Joy. Luke is a part of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and ski and snowboard club. He has played soccer and participates in track and field. Luke was captain of the soccer team this past season and was a Lancaster-Lebanon League First Team All-Star and Academic All-Star. As a member of the youth group at Manheim Brethren in Christ, he has gone on many mission trips, including the Manheim Project and trips to West Virginia and Philadelphia. This year, he plans to serve in Costa Rica. Luke also has helped with the Manheim Community Library and several times with the soccer team and Student Council. He plans to attend college in pursuit of a degree in engineering.

Sophia, 17, is the daughter of Galen and Zlatuse Harrill of Manheim. She is the president of the Speech and Debate Club and Rho Kappa History Honor Society, vice president of the Class of 2022, and secretary and treasurer of Science National Honor Society. She has been involved with Science Club/Science Olympiad; NAfME All National Choir; Chansodie; PMEA District, Regional, and State Festivals; and Diversity and Inclusion Club. She is also a member of National Honor Society, English National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Thespian Honor Society. Sophia has volunteered at the Manheim Community Library and Water Street Mission, and she has assisted at Elementary Science Night and Earth Day. Sophia plans to attend college to obtain a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. While pursuing a master's degree and later a doctorate in chemical engineering, she would like to work to find more sustainable uses for fossil fuels and create more sustainable materials.
