Lifelong Chester County resident Austin E. Lammey celebrated his 101st birthday on Feb. 8. He celebrated with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Austin was born on the Lammey Homestead, a dairy farm in Elverson, to Park and Emma Retta Lammey. As a young man, Austin enjoyed playing baseball, and in high school, he was the star pitcher for the Caernarvon High School baseball team that won the Tri-County League Title. In 1941, he was the pitcher for Honey Brook. That year, the team won the Chester County Men's League Championship, and Austin was named league MVP.
Austin married Mary Houck in 1948. They had three sons: Ronald, Randall, and Curtis. The family owned the Austin E. Lammey General Store at Loag's Corner for 20 years.
