WellSpan Adds Certified Hand Therapist

WellSpan Rehabilitation Palmyra recently announced that Pamela S. Brunken, OTR/L, CHT has joined the staff as a certified hand therapist (CHT).

A certified hand therapist is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of three years of clinical experience and specializes in rehabilitation of the upper extremity. A CHT must successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and knowledge and must demonstrate ongoing competency through a recertification process every five years.

Certified hand therapists can help individuals who are experiencing pain and/or having difficulties performing functional tasks. Common diagnoses include carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren's contracture, tendonitis, arthritis and traumatic injuries to bones, nerves or tendons. Certified hand therapists help patients using manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and activity splinting and thermal/electrical modalities.

Brunken obtained her Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy from Elizabethtown College and has been a practicing occupational therapist since 1994. She has been a CHT since 2005.
