Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Full Moon Walk: Wind Strong for people of all ages will be offered from 8 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 18. Hikers will trek to the highest and maybe windiest spot in the park. The natural sounds and views will help them learn about nature at night. Hikers will meet at Pavilion 11, 733 Williamson Road, Lancaster.
March Winds Bring Kites! will take place on Saturday, March 19, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Participants of all ages will assemble, personalize, and test-fly simple sled kites.
Create a Humming, Buzzing, Chirping Garden will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, for people of all ages. Local author Lisa Doseff will read her children's picture book "Grandma Lisa's Humming, Buzzing, Chirping Garden." Participants will make newspaper pots and plant seeds that can be taken home to start a garden.
During Hello, Spring! on March 20 from 3 to 4:30 p.m., participants of all ages will welcome the new season with fairy houses and mud paintings.
Exploring Light and Rainbows will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21. Participants of all ages will learn how rainbows get their colors and why they are seen after it rains. Participants will complete a craft and take home a pair of diffraction glasses.
Munchkin Science: Beekeepers will be offered to children ages 3 to 5 on Tuesday, March 22, from 1 to 2 p.m. Munchkins will learn about different species of bees and how to become a better steward of local bees. Children will build a bee house, giving mason bees a place of shelter.
Homeschool Wednesday: Birds of Fields and Edges will take place on Wednesday, March 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Students ages 8 to 12 will meet at the Exhibit Farmhouse, 2 Exhibit Farm Road, Lancaster, to explore the fields and woodland edges of the Muhlenberg Wildflower Meadow. Attendees will look for resident birds, early returning migrants, and the food remaining on winter seed sources in the meadows. Attendees should dress for a walk on mowed paths. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
Jump Into STEM: Critter House Construction has been set for Thursday, March 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 may make a magical critter house for fairies or trolls. Participants will take a short, guided hike to collect materials to construct the houses. They should dress for the weather and wear the correct footwear for hiking trails.
