The Columbia Park Rangers held the group's annual meeting on Feb. 6 and announced several cleanup projects. The Park Rangers group, formed in 2001, is a volunteer organization dedicated to the beautification and maintenance of Columbia's parks and public areas.
Work details have been scheduled for Saturday, March 26, at 8 a.m. at Glatfelter Memorial Field; Saturday, April 16, at 8 a.m. at Locust Street Park; Thursday, April 21, at 5:45 p.m., meeting at Front Street under the Veterans Memorial Bridge for a members-only Adopt-A-Highway event; Saturday, April 23, at 8 a.m. at Janson Park; Friday, April 29, at 8 a.m., meeting at Third and Locust streets for a downtown spring cleanup; Saturday, April 30, at 8 a.m., meeting at Glatfelter Memorial Field for tree trimming; Thursday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at Janson Park; Wednesday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m. at Makle Park; Wednesday, June 8, at 8 a.m. at Locust Street Park; and Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8 a.m. at Locust Street Park.
Volunteers are invited to assist with the upcoming projects. Tools, drinks and snacks will be provided.
The organization also approved a $2,500 donation to the Janson Foundation for new playground equipment at Janson Park.
In addition to its cleanup projects, the Park Rangers group places U.S. flags in downtown Columbia for holidays and special events throughout the year.
