On Dec. 1, 2021, the Lancaster Family YMCA and the YMCA of York and York County merged into a single YMCA association, now known as the YMCA of the Roses. Prior to the merger, the York YMCA branches were the only locations that hosted a Splish, Splash Easter Egg Bash. For the first time, this event will be offered at the City Center and Lampeter-Strasburg branches in Lancaster County.
The Splish, Splash Easter Egg Bash will take place at the Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA branch, 800 Village Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to noon and at the City Center YMCA branch, 265 Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster, on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. This twist on the traditional Easter egg hunt will require kids to bring a basket, a swimsuit, and a towel because they will hunt for eggs in the pool. There will also be face painting and a small craft in the pool hallway, and the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. A golden egg will be hidden among the other Easter eggs, and the person who finds it will win a special prize.
"Because this is a new event for the Lancaster and Lampeter-Strasburg branches, I'm excited to see how it goes," commented Jenny Galloway, co-coordinator of the Splish, Splash Easter Egg Bash. "It's important for people to know this is a really fun community event. It can be a way for kids to get in the water in a different way and kind of get their mind off the scariness of water and break down those boundaries."
Children will be assigned time slots based on their age. Those age 2 and younger will hunt from 9 to 9:15 a.m., ages 3 to 5 will hunt from either 9:25 to 9:40 a.m. or 9:55 to 10:10 a.m., ages 6 to 8 will hunt from either 10:25 to 10:40 a.m. or 10:55 to 11:10 a.m., and age 9 and older will hunt from 11:25 to 11:40 a.m. Children age 5 and under and non-swimmers will be required to have a parent in the water. Participants must preregister for the event at https://bit.ly/SplishSplashEasterEggBash. Pregistration for the Lampeter-Strasburg branch will close on Friday, April 1, and it will close for the City Center branch on Friday, April 8. Nonmembers will have to pay a small fee.
"The Y is more than just a 'gym and swim,'" stated Galloway. "We really are trying to get more connected with the community. We want everyone to know that this is a place for everybody, not just people who are looking to work out."
