The Exploring Growing Together (EGT) weekly discussion series will continue at Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 E. Market St., Lititz. All discussions will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 103 on the lower level. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch to enjoy during the discussions.
Al Schaub will return on Thursdays, April 21 to May 5, for a series on "Warriors Without Weapons." The books, handout, and video-based discussion program will explore the unique and challenging mission and lifestyle of those people of faith who experience a calling to be a military chaplain.
The discussion will initially focus on a video re-enactment by a survivor of a World War II troop ship that was served by four chaplains who made the ultimate sacrifice for their flock. The group will then turn its attention to the book "Faith Under Fire" by Roger Benimoff, a chaplain who served two tours of duty in Iraq. Discussion will highlight the unique demands and stressors faced by military chaplains and the causes of PTSD by those who have served in the Middle East wars.
A second, optional book is "For God and Country" by Brian Bohlman. This book is an overview of the chaplain's doctoral dissertation, in which he researched the needs and qualifications of someone who feels the calling to be a military chaplain.
The forum learning series aims to offer a safe learning environment in which to discuss and explore diverse topics and beliefs. Contact Linda at 717-626-0745 or raven303@ptd.net for more information.
