Native Plant Sale Slated

Penn State Native Plant Habitat Team, formerly known as MAEscapes, and the Penn State Master Gardeners will hold their 24th annual Native Plant Sale on Saturday, May 7, at John Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

Plant growers from around the region will offer a large selection of native plants for sale, including trees, shrubs and flowering perennials suited for the local area. Master Gardener experts will be on hand to answer gardening questions and help shoppers decide on the best plants for their needs. The Kilted Griller will offer a variety of breakfast and lunch items for sale. Returning this year, musical entertainment will be provided by Celtic Wood and Wires. Attendees may visit the various educational displays and shop for books, stepping stones and garden tools.

Free lectures will include "Our Favorite Plants" at 7:50 a.m., "Spotted Lanternfly" at 9 a.m., "Rain Barrels in Your Yard" at 10 a.m., and "Pollinator Plants and Their Impact on the Food Web" at 12:30 p.m. Lisa Doseff, author of "Grandma Lisa's Humming, Buzzing, Chirping Garden," will offer a book signing and readings from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A Historic Trees Arboretum Tour will begin at 11 a.m. Children's activities will be available throughout the event.
