The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) will hold its free household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place behind the YCSWA's Recycle Drop-Off Center, 2685 Blackthorne Court, York.
While attending the event, all participants must remain in their vehicles and contain all collection materials in the trunk or bed of vehicle, not the back seat. Materials will be removed from the vehicle trunk or bed by event staff. No smoking is permitted at any time during the event.
Household hazardous waste includes products from the home that are corrosive, such as drain cleaners or bleach; flammable, like gasoline; reactive, as in chemistry kits; or toxic, such as pesticides. All York County homeowners or residential tenants are eligible to participate in this event. There is no fee. Business and government entities are not eligible to participate.
Registration is required and will be available at http://www.eventbrite.com until Friday, May 6. Participants who bring a device containing mercury, such as a thermometer or thermostat, will receive a Lowe's gift card; one gift card per household will be given out while supplies last.
