Their hectic schedule began with a 7-5 loss to Warwick on Friday, April 29. SOFTBALL
The softball team added two more wins to their total and moved closer to clinching the Section One title.
Last Monday, May 2, in Neffsville they battled back from a 2-0 deficit, scoring in four of the last five innings to hang a 5-3 loss on Manheim Township.
"Bria Booth's two out RBI double in the seventh won the game while Kate Ream (2-4 2RBI) sealed the deal with a hit to drive in Booth," said head coach Dave Stokes. "Emily Riggs added a solo homer in the fifth and struck out eight over the final three innings. It was a great team effort."
Regan Soboleski went 2-3 with a double and Kira Green was 2-4 with a double and a walk.
The Comets were coming off a 5-1 thriller over Warwick, Friday, April 30.
Tied at 1-1 after six complete, the Comets scored four runs on seven hits in the seventh to win. Soboleski went 4-4 with one RBI and Riggs was 3-3 with two runs batted in.
"Julie Bowmaster (4k) was tough as nails," stated Stokes, "giving up one unearned run."
As has been the tradition to date, Riggs finished out in the circle.
BASEBALL
It was a busy six days for the Comets who played four times and came away with three wins. They opened with a 10-3 win over Warwick on Friday the 29th and the following morning toppled William Penn 13-2. Last Monday they split the series with Township, earning a 2-0 shutout and Wednesday dropped a 10-6 final against McCaskey, leaving them at 11-6 overall. All four of those games were at home.
"We've been tough to beat at home this year (8-2)," noted head coach Tom Fish. "But I'm happiest about our two ace senior pitchers, Noah Beach, and Hunter Sipel, who picked up big wins.
"Noah kept the previously undefeated in the section Warriors off balance, holding them to two earned runs and five hits," he continued.
"On Monday, Hunter finished with nine strikeouts, one walk and allowed two hits against Township. As good of a performance on the mound that I've seen in high school baseball, especially considering the opponent and how big of a game it was for us," Fish added. "In between, another senior pitcher, Gavin Switzer earned his first win of the season with four strong innings and five strikeouts."
Dalton Green had two RBI doubles against Warwick. The Comets scored 12 runs in the first inning against William Penn. Bryce Avery went 2-3 against Township and Sipel (2-4) and Green (1-3) both had two RBIs against McCaskey.
