Track and Field Camp for children in grades three through eight will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 13, through Friday, June 17. The camp will be held at the track at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. The camp is designed to provide an introduction to all aspects of track and field, including training for the events, rules of the sport, competitive strategies, equipment both for training and competing, and nutritional needs and expectations. Campers will work on distance, jumping, throwing, hurdles, starts, sprints and relays. Participants will learn how track and field can prepare them for other sports. A camp T-shirt is included in the fee.
Pokemania (Pokemon Inspired) will be held on Monday, June 20, through Thursday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the gym at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Using Snapology, students ages 5 to 12 will build and explore the world of Pokemon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their own generation of Pokemon. Children will also learn about real-world science as they learn about the habitats of the Pokemon.
Bears Basketball Camp for students in grades three through eight will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on June 20 through June 23 in Daubert Gym at EAHS. The camp will focus on the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, but competitive atmosphere, including ball handling, shooting, passing, defense, rebounding and post moves. A camp T-shirt is included in the fee.
The Amazing Animal Robotics Snapology class will allow animal lovers ages 6 to 14 to create their own animal-inspired robotic models. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, in the GEARS Community Center. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines, and programming as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas, and more.
A Beginner Tennis Camp for children ages 4 to 6 will be held on the tennis courts at EAHS from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, July 11, to Thursday, July 14. Children of any skill level may participate. They will learn the fundamentals of tennis using the red Quick Start tennis balls. In addition to tennis skills, they will work on agility, balance, and coordination.
A coed kickball league will take place this summer, with games played at the Elizabethtown Community Park softball field on Tuesdays, June 7 to Aug. 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Each team will play an eight-game schedule with playoffs. The league fee and rosters are due by Friday, May 20.
