The Nominating Committee of the Donegal-Witness Tree Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has announced its 2022 to 2025 board of management. Suzanne Whallon will serve as regent, with Annette Snyder, Marti Constantinos, and Christina Gallagher as first, second, and third vice regents, respectively. The board of management also includes treasurer Beth Valentin, registrar Ann Carter, chaplain Carol Elfner, corresponding secretary Nancy LeFevre, recording secretary Wanda Miller, historian Cheryl Weaver, librarian Jessie Stollenwerk, and directors Laura Crocker, Carol Falk, Ann Grove, Jeanne Lehman, and Linda Weidman.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, non-political, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. DAR members volunteer more than 250,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for underserved children with annual donations exceeding $1 million. Membership is open to any women age 18 or older - regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background - who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Locally, the Donegal-Witness Tree DAR supports initiatives such as the Blue Star Mothers, School District of Lancaster's Families in Transition Program, and Special Operation Warrior Foundation. Members also volunteer at events such as the Veterans Stone Project's Flag-in event at Lancaster Cemetery and the veteran grave mapping project, and they support organizations such as Dress for Success through clothing drives and donations. A scholarship fund supports local students each year, and recently, the chapter developed an endowment fund through the Lancaster County Community Foundation to support future endeavors.
