The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will offer two public events in July. Both events will take place at the YCAS observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York.
A public Starwatch will take place on Saturday, July 9, from 8 to 10 p.m. The evening will begin with an astronomical presentation, "Behind-the-Scenes Look at Hubble Space Telescope Operations." Guests will then be guided on a tour of the sky through one of the club's telescopes.
On Saturday, July 16, "Solar and Radio Astronomy" will be presented from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a telescope clinic titled "How to Buy an Astronomical Telescope" will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. First light images from the James Webb Space Telescope will be shown at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Individuals who own a telescope but are unsure how to use it are invited to bring it to an event. YCAS members will be available to provide technical assistance.
If it is clear, all activities will occur as scheduled. In the event of extreme weather, call 717-759-9227 for notice of cancellation or search for "York County Astronomical Society (YCAS)" on Facebook. Events are free, but donations will be accepted.
