The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR), an international charity motorcycle event, will be hosted in York for the first time on Sunday, Sept. 27, joining almost 700 cities and 104 countries worldwide. The DGR, which began in New Zealand in 2012, raises money and awareness for prostate cancer research and men's mental health programs/suicide prevention, operating in conjunction with the Movember Foundation. In its history, the event has raised a total of over $24 million.
A group of motorcycle riders from York have been participating in the Lancaster Chapter of the DGR for the past few years, riding together as the White Roses to represent York. Usually, the event consists of classic and vintage style motorcycle riders gathering and riding together in each city, as well as awarding prizes to top fundraisers and providing information on men's mental health. However, due to social distancing and public gathering guidelines around the world in 2020, this year's participants are encouraged to ride solo, but still register to represent their city.
More information about the ride, including registration and donation details, can be found at http://www.gentlemansride.com. In addition, interested persons can find more information by searching for "The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride: York" event on Facebook.
