Theater Group Posts Auditions

Popovsky Performing Arts has announced it will present "Carrie, the Musical" as its mainstage production this summer. Auditions for "Carrie, the Musical" will be held on Saturday, March 30, and Sunday, March 31, at Popovsky Performing Arts Studio, 245 Butler Ave., lower level, Lancaster.

Auditions are open to adults and teenagers age 14 and up. Interested actors can register for an audition time at http://www.popovskyperformingarts.com/classes/event-auditions/.

Rehearsals will begin during the week of Monday, June 17, and continue in the evenings throughout the summer. Cast members will only be called to rehearsal when needed.

Based on the Stephen King novel "Carrie," the musical is the creation of Academy Award-winning composer Michael Gore, Academy Award-winning lyricist Dean Pitchford and book writer Lawrence D. Cohen. Cohen adapted Stephen King's novel for the original 1976 Brian De Palma film, and he co-wrote the 2013 remake.

Local resident Cody Page will make his directing debut in musical theater as director of "Carrie, the Musical." Page is currently working toward his doctorate in directing at Bowling Green University in Ohio, and he holds a master's degree in educational theater from New York University.

Page will be joined on this production by choreographer Devon Groff, musical and pit directors Juliana Alfano and Holly Serio, technical director Andrew Green and production manager Barb Green.

"Carrie, the Musical" will be presented at the Steinman Theater at Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster, on Friday to Sunday, Aug. 9 to 11.
