The Pequea Valley Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Rob Corrao, performed at the Community Bible Church in Gordonville in the evening on April 2. The event was sponsored by the Intercourse Lions Club and was open to the public.
Marina Martin, grade 10, the band's featured singer, performed to a packed house with the big band and the combo. Assistant director and bassist Lexy Lassak, grade 11, conducted the band through two pieces. The lead tenor saxophonist, Andrew Gossert, grade 11, was featured on "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," a Charles Mingus tune written in memory of iconic jazz saxophonist Lester Young.
This concert was the band's season kickoff event. Additional concerts were slated to be held at Calamus Estates in Ronks, the LLMEA Music Banquet and the Watson Run community in Gordonville.
