Landis Homes Plans Public, Family Events For Fellowship Day
Landis Homes' Caring Fund was founded to provide benevolent care for residents who have exhausted their finances, and the annual Landis Homes Fellowship Day event raises money to support that fund. Until last year, the event brought together residents of Landis Homes with family and members of the outside community at the Landis Homes campus at 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz.
"Last year things had to change for Fellowship Day," said Beth Trout, vice president of advancement and communications with Landis Communities. To protect residents from COVID-19 during the 2020 event, the benefit auction moved to an online platform, the chicken barbecue became a drive-through, and activities for residents, including an ice cream social, a harvest day, and a parade, were scheduled over multiple days. This year, residents will be able to invite their family members for some of those events during Fellowship Week, which will run from Saturday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Sept. 12.
The public will be able to take part in the online auction when it goes live on Sept. 4. Prior to that time, interested bidders may visit http://www.landisfellowshipday.org to view auction items, which include a variety of pieces of artwork, purses, segmented wooden vases and bowls, a Tiffany-style lamp, paintings and photographs by local artists and photographers, painted scherenschnitte, a vintage railroad lantern, clocks, quilts, and more. Bidders may register through the same site. The auction will close on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Also open to the public will be a drive-through chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafts and original art, gently used collectibles, and household items will also be available for purchase, along with homemade baked goods and canned food. A yard sale featuring furniture and appliances will start at 8 a.m. and run until 2 p.m.
