A Night To Remember

For many high school graduates, one of the biggest highlights of their time as a student is prom - an event filled with beautiful dresses, fancy tuxes, great food, excellent music, and a lot of dancing. However, the fun doesn't have to end when prom does. For the past few years, parents of seniors at Penn Manor High School have fundraised for and planned a post prom party with the intent of offering students a safe space to gather one last time before graduation.

This year's post prom will be held after prom on Friday, April 22. Seniors are invited to arrive by 11 p.m. and will be required to remain on the premises until 5 or 6 a.m. after prizes are distributed. The event will be hosted outside at the Barnstormers' stadium, 650 Prince St., Lancaster, to ensure that it happens regardless of the COVID-19 status. During post prom, there will be many different activities in which students can choose to participate. In previous years, there were activities such as glow mini golf, inflatables, an escape room, painting with a twist, a hypnotist, and plenty of free food options. Every senior who stays for the duration of the event will receive a prize.

"Post prom is an important event for our seniors because it offers a fun and safe alternative to student-sponsored parties following prom," explained post prom event coordinator Vicki Fafel. "If we can host an event that is fun and attractive for seniors, we hope to avoid private parties that may not be a safe option. We hope to provide an especially amazing event this year to offset the many disappointments that these students have had to deal with during their high school careers due to COVID."

To raise money for post prom, the committee will host a designer purse bingo event on Friday, Feb. 25. The fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. in the Penn Manor High School cafeteria, 100 E. Cottage Ave., Millersville. Tickets, which will be sold at the event, can be purchased in advance at a discounted price by emailing pm2022postprom@gmail.com. The post prom committee is seeking food donations, prizes, and volunteers to help at the event. The committee would greatly appreciate monetary donations, baskets for bingo prizes, or prizes for the post prom event itself.

"The community should participate in the bingo fundraiser because it costs a lot to provide the amazing evening that we are hoping to host for post prom," stated Fafel. "There is a fabulous selection of high-end purses to be won. It is a great way for community members to have a fun night out and support a great cause."

In addition, the post prom committee is currently selling tickets that correspond with the 28 days in February. Those interested in selling or buying tickets can email the post prom coordinator at the aforementioned email address. All money and unsold tickets must be given to Cindy Bachman in the high school office by Friday, Jan. 21.

To make a donation or get involved with the post prom event, send a message to the committee at the aforementioned email address or search for "Penn Manor Class of 2022 Post Prom Committee" on Facebook.
