St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 80 E. Main St., Adamstown, will host two one-hour classes on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Ephrata Police Chief William Harvey will present the free classes. "How to Survive an Active Shooter Event" will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 15-minute break. "Crime Prevention for Houses of Worship" will begin at 8 p.m.
Harvey served in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps, completing his enlistment as a sergeant in the 24th Military Police Company, Fort Stewart, Ga. He is a member of the Military Police Regimental Association.
Harvey served for 22 years with the Savannah Police Department in Georgia, with assignments in field operations, investigations and support services. He completed his career in Savannah as the director of training and then served as chief of police for the Lebanon City Police Department from 2002 to 2009. In February 2009, he was appointed chief of police for the Ephrata Police Department.
He also serves as Ephrata Borough's emergency management coordinator, co-chair of the South Central Pennsylvania Joint Terrorism Task Force's criminal justice committee, and a member of the All Hazards Incident Management Team for the region. Harvey serves on the advisory board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association and has published hundreds of articles in professional-related periodicals. He has lectured nationwide on law enforcement subjects.
The public is welcome to attend the event. Light refreshments will be served.
