Adamstown Library Sets Schedule

Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, has posted its schedule.

On June 15, the library started a curbside pickup program. Pickup will be arranged by appointment only, following social distancing guidelines. Readers can place an order of up to five items at a time by calling 717-484-4200, using the electronic form at http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org, or emailing info@adamstownarealibrary.org. They should include their name, phone number, and library card number.

New library hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The library will be closed on Tuesdays. The book drop is open 24 hours for returns.

The Summer Reading Program will begin on Saturday, June 20, and run through Saturday, Aug. 15. Participants will track their progress online. The Adamstown Area Library will kick off Summer Reading with visits from community members and other events from 10 a.m. to noon on June 20, and readers may visit the library's Facebook page that morning to see the visitors and get information about this year's program.

Until libraries can fully reopen, Adamstown Area Library will continue to offer many of its programs and services online. The library presents daily activities with Miss Jess, local celebrity story times, live bedtime stories, weekly nutrition classes and more on its Facebook page, as well as live events on Zoom. Readers may register for Zoom events at http://www.AdamstownAreaLibrary.org/events.

Virtual Bedtime Stories will be offered live on Facebook every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Miss Roxanne will read stories and show a simple craft that can be done at home.

Riding the Rails: 175 Years of Passenger Train Service will be presented by the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania via Zoom on Friday, June 19, at 2 p.m. The interactive experience is geared toward teenagers and adults. It will run 45 to 60 minutes, including a question-and-answer time, and is limited to 30 participants maximum.

The Myth and Magic of Insects will be presented by Ryan Bridge, the Bug Man, via Zoom on Monday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. Virtual attendees of all ages will learn how insects were revered throughout history.

Healthy at Home will be presented on Zoom on Tuesday, June 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. Giant's regional nutritionist, Kilene Knitter, will share about building balanced snacks and creating simple meals. There will also be a focus on meal planning basics, as well as a review some of Knitter's dinner recipes.

Phredd: Ukulele One Man Band will be presented on Zoom on Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m. The singer-songwriter is known for his ukulele, harmonica, and suitcase drum, as well as his original tunes.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania's Virtual STEAM Mobile program, Endangered Animals, will be presented on Zoom on Monday, July 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. Youths in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited and will need paper, a pencil, coloring implements, and access to http://www.worldwildlife.org/.

Drum for Fun with Tammi Hessen will be presented via Zoom on Tuesday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. People of all ages should bring their favorite percussion instrument and enjoy a virtual trip to West Africa to play drums, dance, sing, and learn.

Civil War Clothing, set for Friday, July 10, at 6 p.m. on Zoom, will focus on the many layers of clothing worn by both men and women of various demographics during the Civil War era. Heather Hibbs, owner of Treadle Treasures, reproduces Civil War-era clothing for living historians, re-enactors and theaters. The program is for teenagers and adults.
