Octorara Covenanter Presbyterian Foundation will present its annual Advent vespers service at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. The church and the schoolroom museum, located just north of the church across Route 372, will be open for tours and research from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The prelude of the service will feature the bagpiping of Jonathan Welch followed by remarks by foundation vice president Dan Henry and prayer by pastor John Barlow. The Solanco High School Chorale, directed by Erin Biles, will perform sacred and secular music. The service will also include harpist Kendrah Absher and Country Tenors John Girvin and Richard Keene, along with Christmas carols and congregational singing.
Honoring the church's Scottish heritage, Donald and Becki Henderson will sing "Silent Night" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" in Gaelic. Donald will read the Christmas story from Luke 2 and Matthew 1 in braid Scots dialect.
Refreshments will be served in the social hall after the program.
The community is invited to attend. For details, call the church at 717-786-3402.
