AHEPA Chapter Celebrates Anniversary

The Chester County Chapter of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) celebrated the 40th anniversary of its establishment with a banquet and distribution of scholarship awards on June 23. Nikki D'Augustino, Vasilios Kounios and Helen Newman each received a $1,000 grant.

The guest speaker was Drexel University professor of psychology John Kounios, Ph.D., who spoke about his research that focuses in the neural basis of creativity, insight and problem solving. He specifically spoke about "The Eureka Factor: Aha Moments, Creative Insights and the Brain," a book that he co-authored.

Also in attendance were two special guests from the AHEPA District 4, district governor Charles Mackenzie and district athletic director Harry Mackrides.

The Chester County Chapter of AHEPA has recently raised funds for many charitable and philanthropic entities, including the National Service Dog Project for Disabled Veterans, United Way of Chester County, St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, the Ronald McDonald House, the Pan Hellenic Track Meet, the Greece Fire Relief Project and the National Iron and Steel Museum of Coatesville.
