Model Airplane Club Slates Event

Wing Nutz of York, a local remote-control model airplane club, has received a national grant to host a "Take-Off and Grow" (TAG) event on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its airfield, located at 4390 Board Road, Manchester. The event is intended to introduce and promote the hobby to the public.

The event will be free and open to the public. Pilots of remote-control devices are required to present a valid ID and have a current AMA registration in order to fly. Additionally, a flight simulator and trainer personnel will be available for anyone wishing to try their hand on a computer simulator. A buddy-boxing system will also be set up for those who want to try their hand at flying an actual model airplane.

There will be food and beverages available, as well as a variety of free prizes given away. Demonstration flights will continue throughout the day, and club members will be available to answer questions. Various models will be on display, and there will be an educational session on building one's own planes. The grand prize for the event, courtesy of White Rose Hobbies, will be an Apprentice S15e ready-to-fly airplane complete with transmitter, batteries and charger.

The club is a guest on the property, so attendees are asked to respect the owner's 10 mph speed limit. For more information, readers may call Ryan Heindel at 717-823-9402.
