Annual Flyball Tournament Set

Apr 06, 2019 - 8:00 am

Local flyball team Clean Break Flyball will host its 14th annual tournament on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, at Yellow Breeches Sports Center, 700 Shawnee Court, New Cumberland. The tournament will be held each day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Clean Break was formed in 2004 and competes under the North American Flyball Association (NAFA). NAFA tournaments are divided into divisions so that teams compete against other teams of similar speed. All dogs, including mixed breeds, are eligible to compete and earn titles in NAFA-sanctioned tournaments. More than 40 flyball teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and West Virginia have registered to participate in the upcoming tournament.

Flyball is a fast-paced dog team relay race. Flyball races match two teams of four dogs each, racing side-by-side over a 51-foot-long course. Each dog must run in relay fashion over four jumps, trigger a flyball box, releasing the ball, retrieve the ball, and return over the jumps. The first team to have all four dogs complete the course clean wins the heat.
