The annual Geological Walk at the Haldeman Mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road, Bainbridge, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. Attendees should plan to arrive between 9:30 and 9:55 a.m. to register.
Jeri Jones, an expert in geology and the owner of Jones Geological Services, will explain the different kinds of stone used to build the Haldeman Mansion. Jones will take the group to the stone wall facing the river and the creek nearby, and he will point out where one quarry is located on the property. At each of the tour's seven stops, Jones will provide scientific and historical information. His talk will also include humor and opportunities for attendees to ask questions.
Attendees should wear comfortable shoes. In the case of rain, Jones will present a slideshow inside the mansion. Bottled water will be provided. There is a set fee to cover the costs of the event.
