Jun 19, 2020 - 10:00 am

The Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York, is presenting the Appell Center Master Series: Interviews with Leading Industry Professionals in Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The Appell Center education department has worked to provide virtual learning experiences since the start of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Each Friday through Aug. 28, the Appell Center offers a new interview with a performing arts professional. The Master Series is for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the arts and learning from leading industry professionals.

The Master Series is comprised of three different interview focuses. Director of education Gregory Lauer brings viewers "Behind the Scenes: Careers in the Arts," focused on the careers of a variety of interview subjects, ranging from tenured educators to longtime performers and conductors. Performing arts teacher Tom Ryan presents "Bottled Up: When Art Breaks Us Open," featuring interviews with artists, curators, and administrators at the top of their fields. Dance teacher Shianne Williams-Brown hosts "Releve: How Dancers Rose to the Top," which will showcase the life and stories of dancers ranging from ballet to contemporary.

Some of the interview subjects include Tami Swartz, executive director of the Harrisburg Opera Association; Cary Burkett, producer for WITF's "Arts and Culture Desk"; Unissa Cruse, choreographer and former touring member with "West Side Story," "Mary Poppins," and "Hairspray LIVE"; and Col. Timothy Holtan, former leader and commander of the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" and the first officer to command all three of the Army's premier bands.

Episodes will be posted on the Appell Center for the Performing Arts' YouTube and Facebook pages on Fridays at 10 a.m.
