Lower Susquehanna Archaeological Society, Chapter 28, SPA, will host a lecture titled "A Walk on Mount Carmel: Living and Studying Five Months Surrounded by Prehistory at Mount Carmel National Park in Israel" at its meeting on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. at Blue Rock Heritage Center, 2251 River Road, Washington Boro. There is no fee to attend.
Dennis Brooks will present a travelogue snapshot of the Mount Carmel prehistoric deposits and sites within hiking distance of Haifa University, in northern Israel. Although little time will be spent in any one spot, the tour will include a brief overview of the semester prehistory program at Haifa University and then various historical sites, such as flint knapping grounds, ancient Islamic ruins, a cave occupied by Neolithic hunter-gatherers and the caves of Carmel, where archaic remains were found approximately 90 years ago. Dennis will bring some examples of tools typical of the flint tool work of the area and reproductions of skulls of early archaic humans found at the Carmel Caves.
