West Caln Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at the West Caln Municipal Building, 721 W. Kings Highway, Wagontown. The subject will be "Early Transportation in Chester County. Author, historian, and reporter Christine Quillman will present "Making Inroads: An Illustrative Look at the History of Transportation in Chester County."
The illustrated lecture will draw on Quillman's extensive collection of vintage postcards and early photos and will focus on major roads that helped to shape the county's reputation. The lecture will highlight America's first turnpike, known today as U.S. Route 30, as well as other important Philadelphia-Lancaster routes, including the Strasburg Highway, Route 162, and the Kings Highway, Route 340.
Attendees will get to know the history of West Caln as it relates to early transportation and being part of the most agriculturally advanced regions of southeastern Pennsylvania thanks to enterprising early settlers.
Meetings are free and open to the public.
