Area Library Sets Calendar

Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, will offer a variety of activities to the community. Registration is required for most programs. To learn more and to register, readers may call the library at 717-484-4200.

Several story time programs will be offered for young readers. An adult caregiver must accompany children to each program. Activities will include stories, songs, rhymes, crafts, and finger plays. Preschool Story Time, for children ages 2 to 6, will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Lapsit Program will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and is open to babies up to age 2. Toddler Story Time, for toddlers ages 2 to 3, will take place on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Bedtime Stories will be shared on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to wear their pajamas. WFCU Shark Costume Character Story Time will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m.

The Friends of the Adamstown Area Library will host their annual "Glance at Romance" book sale through Friday, Feb. 14. Decorated bags each containing eight paperback books will be available to purchase at the library.

Life Skills will be offered to teenagers on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 to 11 a.m. Life Skills is intended to help attendees get organized, gain confidence, learn communication and real-life problem-solving techniques, and more.

Market Monday will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. Children may drop in to learn about financial literacy through play by enjoying a shopping experience, including making a shopping list, grabbing a basket, collecting food, and paying with play money at toy registers. No registration is required. Each family group must include a responsible adult. The program is open to children age 2 and up.

The Lego Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants of all ages will be able to make an individual creation with a surprise theme. A favorite will be chosen, and prizes will be awarded. The evening will conclude with a teamwork project.

Technology Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, to help patrons with computers, mobile devices, and technology. A question-and-answer session will be held. Patrons should register for a time slot.

The winter food and wine pairing dinner will take place on Friday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. at Foxchase Golf Club, 300 Stevens Road, Stevens. Proceeds will support the Room to Grow Capital Campaign. Tickets are available for purchase at the library.

A drop-in block party will take place on Monday, Feb. 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. The event will offer a free play session with blocks, people, vehicles, animals, photographs of buildings, and more. Each family group must include a responsible adult. The program is open to children age 2 and up.

The library board of trustees will meet on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The Genealogy Interest Group will gather at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, and is open to older students and adults.

The Winter is for the Birds program will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15. Visitors are invited to drop in to create a pinecone birdfeeder for their feathered friends. The program is open to people of all ages.

Kindness Rock Painting will be offered all day on Monday, Feb. 17. Visitors are invited to stop in to make a special "spread the love" rock.

Hank the French bulldog will visit on Feb. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. All family members are invited to stop in and read to and play with Hank.

Junior Chef Creations will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Children ages 6 to 12 will learn the skills and tools needed to create healthy foods.

A walk-in craft program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Children may stop in to make and take home a seasonal craft. No registration is needed.

A job fair will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 21. Attendees will have opportunities to speak directly to local employers and agencies, learn about current job openings, and apply for available positions on the spot.

STEM: Squishy Circuits will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. Participants will learn how electricity works with Squishy Circuits. Using Play-Doh and non-conductive dough, children will explore hands-on to make lights shine bright and propellers spin and learn how to create a chain of electricity and to see how the world is lit up. The program is ideal for children ages 5 to 9.

Mini-Chef Mondays will take place on Monday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. A nutritionist will help children age 5 and under learn the basic skills and tools needed to create healthy foods. Participants will make strawberry bows. An adult caregiver needs to accompany the child.

The Mystery Guest Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees should bring along what they are currently reading to discuss with the other children at the book club. A mystery guest will appear and attendees will ask questions to try to guess their job. The program is open to families.
