Cordier Auctions and Appraisals will hold a Fine and Decorative Arts Auction at 1500 Paxton St., Harrisburg, on Saturday, Aug. 17. Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. Items crossing the block will include those from 18th-century collector Edward Greey, six pieces of early coin-op, and a Snow Hill Cloister watercolor.

The Snow Hill Cloister piece is a recently discovered allegorical watercolor by Obed Snowberger. The Snow Hill Cloister, founded in Franklin County in 1798 as an offshoot of the Ephrata Cloister in Lancaster County, flourished until the Civil War. Snowberger, the last celibate brother, died in 1895. This watercolor was purchased at the sale of his estate in 1896. Found 50 years ago by a local collector, it is now being offered at public sale for the first time in more than 100 years.

Greey opened an art gallery in New York City in 1868, and this gallery was credited with creating a new appreciation for Japanese art in America. Included in the collection of his items is a scroll by Nonkoku and Nanho Osawa painted on a piece of Mrs. Greey's wedding gown.

A six-piece collection of coin-op includes a Mills Violano Virtuoso and a Wurlitzer LX Orchestrion with Wonderlight along with other early examples. Other collectibles are a Victorian hairwork collection and Native American items. A Lina Zervudichi for Elsa Schiaparelli fish lounge may draw attention from furniture buyers.

Sterling silver includes an Art Nouveau vase by Gorham and a variety of dinner services. Coin silver features Kentucky juleps by Macdannald and Werne. Also offered will be a Drakes of London silverplate and hardwood meat serving trolley. Coins feature late 19th- and early 20th-century gold.

Art highlights are four paintings by Walter Emerson Baum, two by Johann Berthelsen, and a George Stubbs. A Georges Braque print from an edition of 70 will be offered, as will six Audubon prints including the Golden Eagle. An 18th-century William Webster bracket clock will cross the block along with five pillar and scroll clocks, including Seth Thomas and Eli Terry.

Bidders are invited to participate both live and online, with the complete catalog available at http://www.CordierAuction.com. A live preview will be held at Cordier's Harrisburg auction house on Friday, Aug. 16, from noon to 4 p.m.
